Marks & Spencer’s Cupcakes
Cupcakes. They're big, they're sweet and they come in lots of flavours. This weekend I have been trying some out (recipe reviews will follow shortly) but first I had to try the Marks and Spencer's ones from their new Cake Shop. I love M&S food. I cannot stress this enough. Love it, love it, love it. The ready meals, the various breads and the little swiss roll cakes smothered in chocolate that come in tubs are gorgeous. I therefore had high hopes for their new cupcake range. I chose 4 Belgian Chocolate Blackout Cakes and 4 Percy Pig Cupcakes. They were on offer (£2.49 and £1.49 respectively). They were presented very well and if you were laying these out for a party they would look great. However, the taste. Well. Not so much.
The chocolate ones smelled wrong to start with. I don't know if it was the chocolate they'd used but they didn't smelled chocolatey. The Percy Pig ones I expected to smell of the Percy Pig sweet and they did. The sponge for both of them felt and tasted dry in the mouth and the icing, well, lets just say it wasn't to the usual Marks and Spencer's high standard. My son, who says it like it is, said they tasted like swimming pools. Hmm.
and now i want to make cupcakes. i’ve made some similar to the chocolatey ones before. mine didn’t look quite as professional, but they tasted good
