Homemade Cinder Toffee Ice Cream

Today I finally decided to do something about the five egg yolks that have been languishing in the fridge. Initially I thought I’d make Vanessa Kimbell’s custard recipe, but then, as it’s supposed to be summer, I’d decided to turn it into ice cream.

And if Vanilla Ice cream isn’t enough I made half quantities of my Chocolate Crunchie recipe with Cadbury’s chocolate on top, so I could smash it up and add it to the ice cream before it went too hard.

Well, that was the idea. In reality I just couldn’t wait for the ice cream to chill enough and added the smashed crunchie too early. It melted a bit into the ice cream but there are still enough hard, crunchie bits in it to keep me happy. The chocolate has melted into the ice cream giving it that toffee coloured hue.

The result?

Best ice cream. Ever.

But I’ve got to buy myself an ice cream maker. Waiting for it to freeze takes AGES.

Vanessa’s ice cream recipe is here. Just omit the roses and strawberries (if you wish) and replace with cinder toffee.
