From chicken to cake
Yesterday I had three eggs in my hand. These eggs are just crying out to go into a cake, I thought. So this is what I did.
And this is exactly why we’ve had chickens. I like to buy decent eggs from the supermarket. British, free range and organic. Egg quality is one area where I will not compromise. So having my own chickens, free range in the garden is perfect. And so much cheaper. It costs a few pence to feed a chicken every day. Yet it costs £4.00 plus for a dozen free range, organic eggs.
Baking so many cakes, plus eggy bread in the mornings and we go through nearly two dozen eggs in a week.I can’t wait for all the chickens to start laying to keep up with our demands.
To many people producing something in the garden to create something in the kitchen is nothing new. It has been done for centuries. But for me it is. I love it. Who knows where it might lead.
